When the status of a 15 year old case in the Bombay High Court was checked, it was found that they haven't still listed a date. A source gave some critical information on the condition that the information will be used only in public interest.In India `truth' is still no defence in contempt proceedings. SC should not make law in place of Parliament: Judge Katju

SC should not make law in place of parliament. Supreme court is not an interim parliament, said Justice Markandeya Katju. He added that Supreme Court judges should do their jobs and not become a Parliament and make laws. The comment was made during the hearing of an inter-country adoption case, reports The Indian Express.

The Supreme Court criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's enthusiasm to decongest city traffic by capping cycle rickshaws. The criticism was made when the Supreme Court was hearing MCD's appeal against the Delhi High Court's order striking down as arbitrary its policy on rickshaws. It is a huge blow to the Rickshaw pullers in New Delhi, reports The Times Of India.
The Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

The Government introduced a Bill to establish an academy for advancement of learning and prosecution of research in the field of science and technology in association with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research on Monday. The institute will work on research and instruction in areas not dealt with in regular universities in the country, reports The Hindu.

The Monsoon session of the parliament will be held from July 26th to August 27th. The Government failed to meet its legislative targets in the last sessions. The UPA Government intended to introduce several bills, including the ones on Judicial accountability, four bills on university education, women's reservation and biotechonology regulator.UPA failed to fully utilize these sessions, writes MR Madhavan in The Indian Express.

Constitution Amended: Reservation extended for SC & ST in legislature, 385 to 1

Yet, again Constitution has been amended to extend the period of reservation for schedules castes and scheduled tribes in legislature for 10 more years. The amendment was carried by the Lok Sabha by a majority of 285 to 1, with one abstension. Originally the reservation was to be for ten years only, when the Constitution came into force in 1950. But every ten years, this period of reservation is being extended as a routine, without any consideration for the original intent of the framers our Constitution.

A government report has outlined multiple channels for acceptance of RTI applications. If recommendations are accepted, RTI pleas could be filed at a service centre or in comfort of your home even as you finish up your household chores, reports Himanshi Dhawan in the Times of India.
